The most important thing in life for a woman is maybe the birth of a child. But many woman have irregularities in the ovulation cycles and they get pregnant very difficult. Not all the women have the ability to conceive naturally. Infertility by nature is a complex condition, many methods are required before any possible diagnosis is created.
In order to increase the chances of getting pregnant, women with infertility problems consults doctors and get treatment with fertility pills. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common problem women have that keeps them from ovulating.
Since is cheap and easy to take (pill form not injections), one of the most common drug for infertility problems is Clomid (Clomiphene citrate). The drug stimulates the ovulation process. The main three hormones in the ovulation process are:
• Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)
• Luteinizing hormone (LH)
• Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
Although it has a potential to cause hair loss, women consider that worth the risk. But it is not the only side effect of this drug. Clomid can cause multiple births: twins, triplets, quantruplets and quintuplets. Other side effects are: increase in appetite, depression, mood swings, nausea and vomiting, breast tenderness, headache, acute abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, bloating, dermatitis or dizziness (fatigue).
Clomid is very effective - 80% begin to ovulate and 40-45% of those women get pregnant in at most 6 cycles.
The best way is to discuss with your physician about all advantages and disadvantages. After that you can decide to try this medicine. Discuss all the options with your doctor.
